SIBOL Men cemented its regional dynasty on Wednesday, Dec. 17, after sweeping Malaysia, 4-0, to clinch its fourth consecutive gold medal in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) event of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games at Chulalongkorn University.

The victory completed a flawless campaign for the Filipinos, who went undefeated with a 6-0 record throughout the tournament, spanning the group stages to the grand finals.

Bannered by the core of MPL Philippines champions Team Liquid PH, SIBOL showcased superior tactical discipline and mechanical skill to dismantle their perennial rivals.

The championship roster featured Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno, Kiel “Oheb” Soriano, Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya, Alston “Sanji” Pabico, Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz, and John Carlo “Caloy” Roma.

The Philippines opened the best-of-seven series with two clinical victories to take a 2-0 lead. Malaysia, led by the core of former MSC champions SRG, attempted to mount a comeback in Game 3, but SIBOL executed a late-game turnaround to reach match point.

In the clinching fourth game, SIBOL maintained relentless pressure from the draft phase to the final base push, ending the series in a dominant sweep.

The gold medal win marks a historic “four-peat” for the Philippines in the men’s MLBB category, a streak that began in 2019 during the inaugural esports program in Manila.

Jungler Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno also reached a personal milestone, securing his second career SEA Games gold medal.

Under the guidance of head coach Rodel “Ar Sy” Cruz, SIBOL’s victory reinforces the Philippines’ status as the global epicenter of Mobile Legends esports, following their 3-1 semifinal win over Indonesia earlier in the week.

The Philippine delegation looks to add to its haul as the women’s MLBB team also competes for gold in their respective division.
