Filipino Muay Thai athletes Islay Bomogao, Tyron Jamborillo, and LJ Rafael Yasay advanced to the gold medal matches at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games after securing victories in their respective semifinals on Tuesday.

Bomogao advanced after her opponent, Vietnam’s Mai Hoang Khanh, suddenly forfeited before the third round.

Jamborillo and Yasay also booked their places in the championship rounds with decisive semifinal wins.

The trio’s success moves the Philippine Muay Thai team closer to multiple gold medal opportunities as the competition enters its final stages. Their advancement continues the country’s strong showing in combat sports at the regional meet.

In addition to the gold medal prospects, Filipino fighters have also earned medals in other Muay Thai disciplines, including bronze medals in events such as the Wai Kru division earlier in the Games.

Bomogao has also made significant strides outside of the SEA Games, becoming the first homegrown Filipino to compete in the ONE Championship Muay Thai division after signing with the promotion in late 2024.

Her debut came at ONE Friday Fights 86 in Bangkok, where she earned a unanimous decision win over Japan’s Fuu in a catchweight bout. Bomogao improved her record with a second decision victory over Ran Longshu at ONE Friday Fights 93 and later scored a first-round knockout against Nerea Rubio at ONE Friday Fights 111.

Final medal matches for Muay Thai are scheduled for later this week, as national pride and regional rankings are at stake.
