The long wait finally ended on the sands of Chonburi as Alas Pilipinas Women carved out a breakthrough moment that reshaped Philippine beach volleyball history.
On Monday at Jomtien Beach, the Filipinas swept Vietnam, 2–0, to clinch a spot in the Southeast Asian Games gold medal match — the country’s first finals appearance in the women’s beach volleyball event since it was introduced to the biennial meet in 2003.
With the win, the Philippines locked in at least a silver medal, instantly marking its best-ever finish in the discipline.
What made the achievement even more striking was the opponent awaiting them. Thailand, the dominant force in the sport, has ruled all eight previous editions of the SEA Games women’s beach volleyball competition. The hosts now stand between Alas Pilipinas and a historic gold.
Before the championship showdown, the two unbeaten squads — both sporting pristine 4–0 records — will collide once more in the final elimination round match on Tuesday at 2:30 PM.
While the medal colors are already decided for the Philippines, the encounter offers both teams a chance to seize momentum and plant psychological seeds ahead of the final.

The victory over Vietnam was forged through composure and balance across both matches. In the opener, Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons navigated a tense three-set duel against Thi My Nga Dinh and Hong Hanh Mai, emerging with a 21–18, 15–21, 15–10 win that officially booked the Philippines’ place in the final.
Sunny Villapando and Dij Rodriguez then completed the historic sweep in Game 2, edging Ngoc Lan Chau and Le Thi Tuong Vy Nguyen in another tightly contested affair, 22–20, 19–21, 15–10, to ensure the Filipinas advanced unbeaten.
On the men’s side, Alas Pilipinas saw its medal hopes fade despite a spirited stand against defending champion Indonesia. Ronniel Rosales and Rancel Varga were outmatched in the opening pairing, falling 17–21, 9–21 to Sofyan Rachman Efendi and Bintang Akbar.
The Filipinos briefly reignited hope when Ranran Abdilla and James Buytrago stunned Yosi Ariel Firnanda and Danangsyah Yudistira Pribadi, 23–21, 21–18, to force a decisive golden match. However, Indonesia’s top duo of Sofyan and Bintang proved too steady in the finale, dispatching Abdilla and Buytrago, 21–17, 21–13.
The result placed Alas Pilipinas Men third in Pool B with a 1–2 record, ending a run that saw them collect bronze medals in three straight SEA Games from 2019 to 2023.
While the men bowed out, the women carried Philippine beach volleyball into uncharted territory. On a shoreline where history had never favored the Philippines, Alas Pilipinas Women finally turned the tide — and now stand one match away from an unprecedented SEA Games gold.
