Converge sends star guard Jordan Heading to TNT in blockbuster trade for Mikey Williams

The TNT Tropang Giga have pulled off a blockbuster trade, reportedly acquiring star point guard Jordan Heading from the Converge FiberXers, pending approval from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner’s office.

As part of the pending deal, Converge will receive veteran Mikey Williams in exchange. However, the Filipino-Australian guard will not be available for his new team immediately, as he is currently sidelined with a back injury. There is no specific timetable for his return after he began experiencing back spasms in Game 3 of Converge’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal series against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Heading was present at the Philsports Arena during Converge’s 117–103 win over Terrafirma Dyip on Wednesday, May 28, where he addressed the status of his injury.

“With Converge, I’ve been doing non-contact work and a lot of things on my own,” Heading said. “I’m not just doing one rehab session a day. I’m doubling up—going two, even three times a day—doing whatever I can to get back on the court faster.”

“As we ramp things up for myself on the court, we’ll continue to assess the situation and how my body feels. I’m trying not to rush into anything too soon,” he added.

The 28-year-old confirmed that he received goodbye messages and well-wishes from almost every member of the Converge squad. He hopes to recover in time to help TNT in their bid for a historic Grand Slam.

“Obviously, when trades like this happen, it’s sad—at least for a little bit. It’s fluid. There’s no set timetable, so it’s kind of hard to say. But I certainly hope so. Hopefully, I can get myself in shape and healthy enough to help them as soon as possible—whether that’s this conference or the next, we’ll see,” he concluded.

With Heading, TNT acquires one of the league’s premier perimeter scorers. He was a standout for Converge during the Commissioner’s Cup and was even in contention for the Best Player of the Conference award, despite the team’s quarterfinal exit.

Selected as the top pick in the special Gilas Pilipinas draft by the Terrafirma Dyip in 2020, Heading opted to begin his professional career overseas. He enjoyed successful stints with the Taichung Suns in Taiwan’s T1 League, Nagasaki Velca in Japan’s B. League, and the West Adelaide Bearcats in Australia’s NBL1.

He was also part of the Strong Group Pilipinas squad that won the William Jones Cup and has been a consistent presence in the Gilas Pilipinas national team setup, starting from the 2011 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship. Though he was included in the 21-man pool for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, he missed the tournament due to injury.
