Philippine Women’s football team crush Malaysia to reach SEA Games semis, set up showdown vs Thailand

With their backs against the wall and a semifinals ticket hanging by the slimmest of margins, the Filipinas delivered their most ruthless performance of the tournament — and in the process, turned Group B into a math puzzle they ultimately solved with conviction.

Hours later, defending champion Vietnam did just that, blanking Myanmar, 2–0 — a result that tipped the tiebreaker in the Filipinas’ favor and sent them through to the knockout round.

Alexa Pino fired the opening goal before halftime, the spark that lit a full-blown goal barrage. She struck again in the 53rd minute, then completed her hat trick via a calmly taken penalty in the 70th — a performance that cemented her as the match’s unstoppable force.

But Pino wasn’t the only one in a scoring mood.

Jessika Cowart added a clean finish in the 68th, Ariana Markey buried one in the 85th, and Anicka Castañeda capped the six-goal avalanche with a stoppage-time strike in the 96th minute.

By the final whistle, the Philippines had not just won — they had sent a statement to the rest of the field.

By finishing second in Group B, the Filipinas set up a blockbuster semifinal showdown with Thailand, a regional powerhouse playing in front of a home crowd.
