Aleah Finnegan shines again with gold medal in SEA Games

Aleah Finnegan reaffirmed her status as one of Southeast Asia’s top gymnasts after capturing the gold medal in the women’s vault final at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok on Thursday.

The Paris Olympian delivered two clean, high-difficulty vaults to secure the Philippines’ second gymnastics gold of the tournament.

Finnegan topped the field with poise and power, outclassing Vietnam’s Nguyen Thiquynh Nhu, who settled for silver, and Malaysia’s Yeap Kang Xian, who claimed the bronze.

Her victory added to the Philippines’ growing medal haul and continued her streak of podium finishes in the SEA Games.

Coming into the vault final as one of the favorites, Finnegan showcased the same high-level execution that made her a standout at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her amplitude, control on landing, and composed presentation set her apart from the field, earning strong scores from the judges.

This gold medal is the latest addition to Finnegan’s decorated SEA Games résumé. She previously collected multiple medals across team, individual, and apparatus events in past editions. 

The triumph also served as a highlight in a challenging year for Finnegan, who has balanced international commitments with national team duties.

Despite the demands of competing on the world stage, she continues to deliver for Team Philippines, providing a steady source of medals in major competitions.

Finnegan’s performance contributed to a promising campaign for the Philippines in gymnastics, which also secured podium finishes in men’s and women’s events earlier in the day. 

The Philippine delegation is expected to contend for more medals as the apparatus finals continue.
