Aleah Finnegan is heading into the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games with renewed confidence, saying months of preparation in the Philippines and recent international exposure have put her in peak form for the regional meet set from 9 to 20 December in Thailand.
The 22-year-old gymnast spent the past four months training locally and also saw action in the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships in Jakarta last November, giving her valuable acclimatization to the region’s climate and time zone.
“I feel a bit more prepared just because I know what I’m expecting. I kind of know the environment a little bit more and I’ve been in the Philippines for four months so it’s not as crazy of a time difference as coming from the States,” Finnegan said.
Finnegan said she is focused on delivering cleaner routines as she returns to one of her most successful stages.
“I think there are just so many things that have been beneficial for me for this one. I’m just looking to hit clean routines and then we’ll see how it goes,” she added.

Finnegan enters the Bangkok Games as one of the favorites in women’s artistic gymnastics after a strong showing in previous editions.
She captured gold in vault and secured silver medals in the individual all-around and balance beam during the SEA Games in Hanoi.
“ I was thankful enough to be able to attend the World Championships in Jakarta, and I think that really was so helpful in the preparations because we got to be on the competition floor, we got to see some different competitors and just kind of get used to being under the lights again,” she said.
For Finnegan, the SEA Games remains a sentimental competition, having been the first event she represented the Philippines in.
“The SEA Games was the first competition that I ever competed for the Philippines ever so I think that it’s extra special to me… it really just holds so near and dear to my heart,” she said.
Finnegan also claimed two bronze medals in the vault and balance beam during the 2023 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Singapore.
The Filipina-American will lead the Philippines alongside other established names in the 33rs SEA Games from December 9 to 20.
