Dave Ildefonso, Geo Chiu, Jason Brickman to finish MPBL season first before entertaining Gilas call-ups

Abra Solid North’s trio of Dave Ildefonso, Geo Chiu and Jason Brickman have made it clear: they will remain focused on finishing the 2025 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) season before entertaining any call‑up invitations from Gilas Pilipinas. 

The decision comes as the Weavers push toward an MPBL title and the 2025 MPBL National Finals loom ahead.

With the MPBL finals, slated from December 9 to 20, overlapping the event schedule, the timing simply does not allow for the players to suit up for both.

The three standout players have been pivotal to Abra’s dominance this season. In the recent North Division finals sweep over the Pangasinan Heatwaves, Ildefonso exploded for 18 points and 14 rebounds to seize Best Player honors.

Meanwhile, Brickman’s facilitating and Chiu’s presence inside the paint have been critical factors in Abra’s march toward the title.

It wasn’t an easy decision. For many players, suiting up for Gilas represents honor and national duty. But for Ildefonso, Chiu, and Brickman, and perhaps more so for their club, the MPBL championship remains a priority. 

Sources say the Weavers’ front office and the national federation both agreed that their MPBL commitment should come first.

The 2025 MPBL season has been historic for Abra. They have put together an impressive winning streak and showed consistency across division rounds, playoffs, and now the Finals.
