Kymani Ladi’s SEA Games status still in the air

Kymani Ladi’s potential debut for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games remains uncertain, as officials continue to await final eligibility guidelines from organizers in Thailand. 

While the young forward has been named to the national pool, his actual participation is far from guaranteed.

Ladi, one of Ateneo’s brightest prospects this season, was among the collegiate standouts added to the SEA Games roster earlier this year but as the Games draw closer, the team still cannot confirm that he will wear the national colors.

According to the report, Gilas management emphasized that Ladi’s inclusion is still subject to SEA Games eligibility rules, which have yet to be finalized. The uncertainty has forced officials to hold off on cementing the final lineup.

One insider noted that the Philippine camp wants clarity before making commitments, adding that the issue affects multiple players, not just Ladi.

The concern stems from the possibility of stricter eligibility regulations, particularly for athletes with foreign-born backgrounds or those with recently issued passports. 

With Ladi having Filipino heritage but a complex eligibility profile, he may be affected depending on how the host nation enforces its criteria.

Gilas officials are hoping for clarity soon, but until the SEA Games committee releases the official eligibility list, Ladi’s participation will remain unresolved.
