Lionel Messi equals Ferenc Puskas’ all-time assist record as Inter Miami cruises into MLS Conference Final

Argentina and Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, a status reflected in his countless professional and individual honors, including a record eight Ballon d’Or awards.

Messi continued to rewrite football history as he led Inter Miami to a 4-0 victory over Cincinnati in the MLS Eastern Conference semifinals. The 38-year-old opened the scoring in the 19th minute and then turned provider in the second half, recording three assists (57th, 62nd, and 74th minutes) to guide his team to the final.

In the process, Messi created yet another record, equaling the all-time career assist tally of Hungarian and Real Madrid legend Ferenc Puskas, with 404 assists. The Argentina icon now needs just one more assist to claim the top spot outright.
