Eumir Marcial, Weljon Mindoro bolster PH in SEA Games 

Filipino boxers Eumir Marcial and Weljon Mindoro are set to bolster the Philippines’ boxing team in the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games this December.

Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abrahan Tolentino confirmed on Thursday that the two professional boxers accepted his offer, after much deliberation, to join the national boxing team.

“Si Eumir lalaro. Si Mindoro lalaro. Napakiusapan natin na para sa bansa, lumaban naman kahit nasa professional na sila,” said Tolentino on Monday.

Marcial’s decision to compete in the SEA Games comes after he announced that he was taking a national team hiatus to focus on his professional career.

The Olympic medalist will be competing for his fifth gold medal in the SEA Games. He recently outlasted Eddy Colmenares in the Thrilla in Manila 2 card last month.

Meanwhile, Mindoro, who boasts a 15-0-1 win-loss-draw professional record, had previously expressed his interest in fighting for the Philippines, revealing that it was his dream. boasts a 15-0-1 win-loss-draw record 

National team mainstay Carlo Paalam will not be attending this year’s SEA Games, while his fellow 2023 iteration gold-medalist Nesthy Petecio will vie for another this year.

Petecio and Paalam took home two of the country’s gold medals in 2023 alongside Paul Bascon and Ian Clark Bautista.
