The San Miguel Beermen have made a strong start to the 2025 PBA Philippine Cup, currently sitting fourth in the standings with a 4-2 record.

Their momentum continued in their latest game, as the Beermen edged the Magnolia Hotshots, 94–92, at the Ynares Center in Montalban on Friday, November 7.

Central to the victory was the return of Don Trollano, who scored a vital 29 points, including 14 in the second quarter and the game-clinching four-point shot in the final seconds. The versatile forward also contributed defensively, grabbing six rebounds in what marked a triumphant comeback after missing the previous game against the Converge FiberXers on November 2 due to back spasms sustained during the Beermen’s Dubai clash with long-time rivals Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

Trollano’s heroics earned him the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for November 5 to 8, edging out fellow nominees Kelly Williams, Jia Jalalon (TNT Tropang Giga), and Robert Bolick (NLEX Road Warriors).

“Sobrang sakit ng likod ko pero minanage lang PT namin. Medyo nabawasan naman ‘yung pain kaya nakapaglaro ako. Nakita ko open ako. Nakita ko parang wala na ring oras kaya tinira ko na. Kumpiyansa lang,” Trollano said in the post-game press conference.

San Miguel head coach Leo Austria praised Trollano’s familiarity with the four-point shot, noting their shared history at Adamson University.

“During practice, he keeps on taking those four-point shots. Even in Adamson, malayo ang range niya and he keeps on practicing that kind of shot. Minsan nga nagagalit ako kasi first pass pa lang, tinitira na. But this time, ‘yung kanyang tira, necessary ‘yun. Meron siyang sense of urgency. We need somebody who can spark from the perimeter,” Austria said.

Trollano’s heroics helped San Miguel extend their winning streak to four games, with victories over Rain or Shine, Barangay Ginebra, Converge, and Magnolia, giving the franchise strong momentum heading deeper into the Philippine Cup.

The Beermen will look to continue their run when they face the Titan Ultra Kings on Wednesday, November 12, at the Ynares Center in Montalban, with Trollano expected to play a key role in keeping San Miguel’s championship ambitions alive.
