A weekend of contrasting fortunes defined the Filipino presence in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) as Kevin Quiambao and Rhenz Abando powered their squads to bounce-back victories, while William Navarro watched from the sidelines and JD Cagulangan endured back-to-back defeats with Suwon KT SonicBoom.
For Goyang Sono, Sunday’s 85–63 rout of Suwon KT SonicBoom was more than just another win — it was a much-needed revival. After dropping two straight, the Skygunners rediscovered their rhythm behind the all-around brilliance of Quiambao, who once again showed why he’s quickly becoming one of the league’s most exciting young imports.
The Gilas Pilipinas forward torched Suwon with 22 points built on four triples, while also stuffing the stat sheet with seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
His energy and leadership steadied Goyang’s offense and defense alike, propelling the team to a 4–9 record and renewed confidence heading into the next stretch of the season.

On the other end, JD Cagulangan battled hard for Suwon but couldn’t stop the bleeding. The rookie guard tallied 10 points, three assists, a rebound, and a steal, but his efforts weren’t enough to avoid the team’s third straight loss — and their sixth in 13 games overall.
It capped off a rough weekend that saw Suwon also fall 89–81 to Busan KCC Egis on Saturday, where Cagulangan posted seven points, five boards, three assists, and a steal.
Over in Busan, William Navarro continued to be a DNP (Did Not Play) in that victory, leaving questions about his role in the Egis rotation despite the team’s 7–5 record.
Meanwhile, Rhenz Abando and Anyang Jung Kwan Jang found redemption in a statement win. Anyang dismantled the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, 76–50, at the Dongcheon Gymnasium — a resounding response after a two-game slump.
Abando played a pivotal two-way role, delivering 10 points, five rebounds, two steals, and a block, helping Anyang climb back to the top of the standings at 9–4.
Capping the weekend action, Ethan Alvano and Wonju DB Promy continued to impress, with the Filipino-American guard contributing 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals to help his team forge a tie for second place (8–4) with Changwon LG.
With Quiambao asserting his leadership, Abando reasserting dominance, and Alvano steady as ever, Filipino imports continue to leave their mark across the KBL — proving that the league’s most intriguing storylines aren’t just about who wins, but how the next wave of Pinoy stars continues to rise on foreign hardwood.
