Less than six weeks into the 50th season of the Philippine Basketball Association, an unexpected quintet has surged to the top of the league’s scoring charts.
With a blistering average of 23.8 points over five outings, Sedrick Barefield of Blackwater Bossing leads the pack as he continues to impress in his sophomore season.
The former No. 2 draft pick is also pacing the league in three-pointers with 18 so far while averaging nearly 7.8 field goals made per game.
Hot on his heels is Calvin Abueva of the Titan Ultra Giant Risers, averaging 22.4 points and 10.2 boards per outing.
Abueva’s return to his star-making form has been one of the bright spots for the newly-instilled Titan Ultra, who boast a 2-4 win-loss record in the season.

Coming in at number three is Barefield’s teammate, RK Ilagan, posting 22 points per game through two games before he was sidelined due to a meniscus strain.
Ilagan also leads the league in four-pointers made as well as steals. He will look to add tos his league-leading tallies as he seeks to return for the Bossing soon.
Fourth on the list is Titan Ultra’s Joshua Munzon, contributing 21 points per game across six appearances.
The reigning Most Improved Player also leads the league in free throws, as he, alongside Abueva, continues to defy the “farm team” tag for the Giant Risers.
Rounding out the top five is Jerrick Ahanmisi of Terrafirma Dyip, who is averaging 19.5 points per game and ranks fifth in three-pointers made this season.
Since his trade from the Magnolia Hotshots, Ahanmisi has reigned supreme as the Dyip’s top star this season, but the rest of the team has struggled mightily, leading to a 1-5 record so far.
Notably absent from the leaderboard are some of the usual big names, such as June Mar Fajardo, Scottie Thompson, and Robert Bolick.
