Nonito Donaire’s next opponent still a mystery

Filipino boxing legend Nonito Donaire’s next opponent remains a mystery as the former world champion has yet to finalize a decision.

Reports circulated recently that Japanese World Boxing Association (WBA) champion Seiya Tsutsumi has been confirmed to face the Filipino in December.

Donaire stressed that no opponent has been finalized as of yet, saying that they are carefully considering the multiple offers on the table.

“For now, there’s no final opponent yet. There are many opportunities, but we want to make sure we’re fully ready before deciding who to move forward with,” Donaire said.

The former world champion is currently training in Cebu, rather than his usual training camp in Las Vegas, a change, Donaire said, was made due to the constant distractions he faces in the USA.

“Here in the Philippines, I can focus. In Vegas, there are too many invitations and events. That’s why we came here to train and prepare for whoever the opponent will be,” he said.

The Filipino Flash is currently the interim WBA Bantamweight champion after beating Andres Campos via technical decision in his comeback fight last June.

The 42-year-old looks to chase another world title before his illustrious career, in which he captured the Flyweight, Super Flyweight, Bantamweight, Super Bantamweight, and Featherweight crowns, comes to an end.
