Bacolod City to host 2026 Batang Pinoy Games

The 2025 edition of the Batang Pinoy (Philippine Youth Games) officially concluded last Thursday, October 30, in General Santos City, Mindanao, with a festive closing ceremony attended by athletes, coaches, and representatives from various national sports federations.

Capping off the event, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick Gregorio announced that Bacolod City, known as the City of Smiles, will host the 2026 Batang Pinoy.

“Mga Batang Pinoy, handa na ba kayong mag-MassKara? Batang Pinoy 2026 MassKara Bacolod City,” Gregorio declared, drawing cheers from the crowd.

He added that Bacolod’s selection as host is a fitting return, given the city’s history and contribution to the grassroots sports movement.

“It is just fitting for Bacolod to host the Batang Pinoy after several years, being among the pioneers of this grassroots sports program. See you in Bacolod,” he said.

The 2026 hosting will mark Bacolod’s first time since 2014 to stage the national youth games. The city also hosted the inaugural Batang Pinoy in 1999, as well as the 2001 and 2014 editions.

During the turnover ceremony, General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao formally handed over the Batang Pinoy banner to Atty. Jose Marty Go, representing Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya.

In a message, Mayor Gasataya expressed gratitude to the PSC for entrusting Bacolod with the event and highlighted Batang Pinoy’s role in developing world-class Filipino athletes.

“Ang Batang Pinoy, ang dami na pong Olympians na na-produce — the likes of Hidilyn Diaz and Carlos Yulo. I’m sure marami pang magiging produkto. Ito po ang isa sa pinakamalaking grassroots sports programs ng national government,” Gasataya said.

The 2025 Batang Pinoy in General Santos City, held from October 25 to 31, drew around 20,000 athletes competing across 27 sports disciplines, underscoring its continued importance as a breeding ground for the country’s future sporting stars.
