Filipinas squander early lead for draw vs Uzbekistan

The Philippine women’s national football team squandered an early lead and allowed a late goal to settle for a 2-2 draw against Uzbekistan in a friendly at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Chandler McDaniel continued his hot form after slotting home a pass from Meryll Serrano to put the Filipinas ahead in the first minutes of the game.

Serrano seemingly put the match on ice after adding one of her own to double the lead for the Filipinas in the 56th minute.

However, Uzbekistan’s Diyorakhon Khabibullaeva cut the deficit to one after a screamer that went past Filipina goalkeeper Olivia Mcdaniel in the 67th minute.

A poor defensive clearance by the Filipinas eventually allowed Khabibullaeva to strike the game-tying goal in the 81st minute and deny the hosts their first win in home soil since 2022.

The Filipinas will have to recuperate and bounce back for the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games next month.
