Youth Filipino weightlifters Princess Diaz and Alexsandra Diaz will continue the legacy that their aunt, Hidilyn Diaz, started after bagging medals in the 3rd Asian Youth Games.
Alexsandra captured the girls’ 48kg clean and jerk event bronze medal, while Princess also settled for bronze in the girls’ 44kg clean and jerk category.
The Diaz cousins have been training in their aunt’s training center in Zamboanga City in recent years, as Hidilyn has also continued his legacy in weightlifting as a coach.
The Philippines won a total of one silver and four bronze medals in the event, with Jhodie Peralta winning a silver medal in the girls’ 53kg snatch, while also taking home a bronze medal in the division’s clean and jerk category. Jay-R Colonia also nabbed a bronze medal in the boys’ 56kg clean and jerk category.

Allen Diaz, Hidilyn and Alexsandra’s father’s cousin, is one of the four coaches of the youth national weightlifters.
Hidilyn was the torchbearer at the Batang Pinoy 2025 event at the Acharon Sports Complex last Saturday and has continued to train aspiring weightlifters at her weightlifting academy.
Diaz’s legacy traces back to the 2016 Summer Olympics, when she became the first Filipino to win a non-boxing event medal since 1936.
Her crowning achievement, however, came in the 2020 Olympics, after making history as the country’s first Olympic gold medalist. On top of that, she also holds multiple Olympic records in the weightlifting event.
