Manny Pacquiao named IBA Vice President

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will continue his efforts in improving boxing worldwide as the new vice president of the International Boxing Association (IBA).

The former eight-division world champion will link with President Umar Kremlev in developing grassroots boxing in different parts of the world.

The IBA was previously the organizing body for boxing in the Olympics until 2021, when the International Olympic Committee terminated the partnership before the Tokyo Games.

In a press release, Pacquiao expressed his enthusiasm for joining the IBA in what he called the association’s “golden era.”

“The IBA has entered a Golden Era — an era where every boxer, from every country, can dream, fight, and succeed on equal terms,” Pacquiao said.

“I am proud to join this mission — to make sure no young boxer is left behind, no champion is forgotten, and no nation is excluded,” he added.

Pacquiao will play a role in developing amateur boxers internationally and preparing them for the biggest stages in the professional scene.

“I will dedicate myself to building bridges — between amateurs and professionals, between East and West, between generations and cultures,” he said.

The Filipino legend is still active professionally, having last fought last August to a majority draw against Mario Barrios.

Pacman is seeking another world-title fight with Rolly Romero, but is also in the midst of a discussion for a rematch against fellow boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. for next year.
