Sunday’s El Clásico brought about the old intensity that the rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid is known for, particularly post-match, after 18-year-old star Lamine Yamal was involved in a dust-up with his opponents.
The Los Blancos strengthened their hold on the top spot of La Liga with a 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe. The competitiveness seeped through after the match when defender Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. had to be separated from Yamal.
The argument stems from Yamal and his father’s comments on an Instagram live before the match. “I cook them here, and my son cooks them there. Go for them!” Yamal’s father said.
The young winger and his family’s antics were reportedly not received well by senior players in Barcelona, specifically defender Ronald Araújo, who rebuffed the media when asked about Yamal.
“I don’t want to talk about him. I can only say that he is a great professional, one of the best in the world, and we are happy to have him. He is of age, he knows what he has to do,” Araújo said.
Reports have surfaced saying that other Barcelona players have not taken kindly to Yamal’s behavior on and off the pitch.
Yamal has previously accused Real Madrid, again on Instagram, of stealing and excessive complaining.

Meanwhile, midfielder Frenkie De Jong came to the youngster’s defense, calling out Carvajal and saying that the veteran should have talked to Yamal in private instead.
“I didn’t see what happened. I was on the bench and saw a lot of people. When the referee blew his whistle, Real Madrid players went after Lamine. It’s a bit exaggerated,” De Jong said.
“If Carvajal wanted to speak with Lamine, call him or text him. Making gestures on the pitch just fuels the fire. Lamine never said Real Madrid cheats. I never heard that. You’re teammates, you know each other. Why do you have to make a scene on the pitch?” he added.
Barcelona remains in second place with 22 points in 10 games, while Real Madrid stands atop with 27 points.
