Gilas Pilipinas reveals final roster for SEA Games

Gilas Pilipinas will boast a mix of experience and youth after revealing the team that will represent the country in the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games this December.

Gilas hero Justin Brownlee will lead the front court alongside fellow naturalized player Ange Kouame.

Joining the two Gilas veterans will be the returning Bobby Ray Parks and Matthew Wright, alongside Jason Brickman, Remy Martin, Dave Ildefonso, Thirdy Ravena, and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser.

Ganuelas-Rosser’s addition to the squad came after SEA Games officials confirmed that the basketball tournament would allow players who hold a country’s passport to play, regardless of their birth circumstances.

Barring any hitches, Gilas Pilipinas coach Norman Black is eyeing the national squad to commence practice by October 27, Monday to begin its preparation for the Southeast Asian Games slated to start on December 9 in three cities in Thailand.

Head coach Norman Black also tapped premier UAAP players such as DLSU Green Archers star Mike Phillips, Ateneo Blue Eagles one-and-done Kymani Ladi, and UAAP Rookie of the Year Veejay Pre.

Black could not tap most of the players who represented Gilas in the FIBA Asia Cup due to restrictions from their respective local leagues, such as the PBA, UAAP, and NCAA, as well as internationally with the Japanese and Korean leagues.

Parks Jr. was allowed by Osaka Evessa starting Dec. 9, while the collegiate standouts was previously allowed by the UAAP to represent the country after the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) requested their availability.

Gilas Pilipinas will suit up for the SEA Games from Dec 9 to 20 in Thailand.
