Golden Boy: Carlos Yulo’s gold rush continues in Gymastic Worlds

Carlos Yulo took home another gold medal for the Philippines after ruling the men’s vault event in the 53rd FIG Men’s Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The Olympic gold-medalist shined in his attempt to average 14.866 points to reclaim the title he last won in Japan in 2021.

The Filipino’s first vault earned him 15.2 points following a piked Dragulescu, which was awarded a stick bonus of .1 point, followed by his first-place winning second vault after a handprint front 2.5 twist that edged out Armenia’s Artur Davtyan, who settled for silver with 14.833 points.

Yulo notched a bronze medal in the floor exercise the day before, which gave him much-needed confidence to regain his vault crown.

“It feels amazing,” Yulo told Olympics.com. “Yesterday, I was really feeling it, it’s a good feeling making it to the podium in third position. It gave me a lot of motivation to do well today. I’m really grateful it happened,” he added.

The gold medal marks Yulo’s third world title after having also ruled the floor exercise at Germany in the 2019 World Championships. Overall, Yulo has nabbed eight medals in the event, with two silver and three bronze medals.

The Filipino last ruled the floor exercise and captured a bronze medal at the all-around, parallel bars, and vault categories in the Asian Championships in Korea last June, following a year-long rest.
