Cignal’s Erika Santos named PVL Player of the Week for October 21 to 25

The Cignal Super Spikers have found their rhythm in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference, rebounding from a rough start with back-to-back victories to revive their campaign.

After dropping their first two outings, Cignal surged up the standings with a hard-fought win on Saturday, October 25, at the Ynares Center in Montalban, where they outlasted the Nxled Chameleons, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-25, 16-14.

Fueling the Super Spikers’ turnaround has been rookie sensation Erika Santos. Following a slow start to the conference, the former PVL On Tour MVP rediscovered her dominant form, tallying 17 points on 17-of-36 attacking in Cignal’s breakthrough victory over her former squad, the PLDT High Speed Hitters, before erupting for 21 points against Nxled.

Her back-to-back stellar performances earned Santos the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week award for October 21–25, besting fellow standouts Anna DeBeer (ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles), Eli Rousseaux (Farm Fresh Foxies), Marlee Smith (Choco Mucho Flying Titans), Yuni Bautista (Chery Tiggo Crossovers), and PLDT’s imports Lindsey Vander Weide and Savannah Davison.

“Personally, we just tried to stay focused and composed. We didn’t dwell on the past games. If anything, those losses motivated us to be hungrier for a win,” Santos shared.

“We were stiff in the first two games. It was like we forgot who we were and what our strengths were. Our errors got the best of us, and we couldn’t move forward. We just put in the work and reflected on what we needed to improve.”

The rookie also credited new import Katrin Trebichavska of Slovenia for bringing energy and positivity in her Cignal debut despite battling jet lag and limited preparation time.

“She really helps the team because she brings a light mood and is very explosive, which challenges us to match her energy. We are thankful that she is sharing her experience with us,” Santos added.

Santos became the first local player to earn the Player of the Week honor in this conference. She and the Super Spikers will look to extend their winning streak when they face the Capital1 Solar Spikers on Friday, October 31, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena.
