Philippine volleyball star Myla Pablo has once again proven her versatility, embracing a new role to help lift Petro Gazz to victory in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference.
The 32-year-old outside hitter, a key figure for both Alas Pilipinas and the Petro Gazz Angels, has collected numerous individual and team accolades throughout her career. But this season, she’s taken on a fresh challenge—serving as the team’s starting opposite spiker.
Petro Gazz entered the Reinforced Conference with a loaded lineup, highlighted by the return of 2022 Best Import and Finals MVP Lindsey Vander Weide. She joins star hitter Brooke Van Sickle, forming a powerhouse outside duo that prompted head coach Gary Van Sickle to shift Pablo to the opposite position—a move the veteran has embraced wholeheartedly.

“It was actually my first time playing opposite with extended minutes, and I just accepted the role coach Gary gave me,” Pablo said after the team’s 29-27, 25-22, 19-25, 17-25, 15-11 win over the previously unbeaten Akari Chargers on Thursday, October 23, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena. “My main goal is to focus on blocking and helping out on the court. Even if I don’t score much, I know my teammates can step up. I just try to contribute through my blocks and defense.”
Pablo tallied 12 crucial points in the five-set thriller, showcasing her adaptability and trademark team-first attitude. She also expressed her delight at reuniting with Vander Weide and Van Sickle, with whom she captured two PVL championships—the 2022 Reinforced and the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conferences.
“Kudos to my two teammates. They’ve been working so hard during training and in games,” Pablo said. “That’s why we all try to support them and give our best contributions on the court to help the team win.”
Pablo credited new head coach Gary Van Sickle for helping her transition smoothly into her new position. “With coach Gary, the adjustment wasn’t hard at all because he’s very chill. Whenever he sees something that can help me improve, he talks to me about it during training or games,” she added.
The Angels’ win improved their record to 3-1, placing them second in Pool B. Pablo and company will look to build on their momentum when they face the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles on Tuesday, October 28, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena.
