Cignal remains quiet on import switch

The Cignal HD Super Spikers are yet to explain why the team parted ways with Greek import Eva Chantava after just two games in the PVL Reinforced Conference.

Head coach Shaq de los Santos said the decision came before Cignal played against the PLDT High Speed Hitters on Tuesday, Oct. 21, but remained grateful for Chantava’s short stint as a Super Spiker.

Cignal snapped their two-game skid as their all-Filipino squad toppled PLDT in straight sets, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21.

“Well, ‘yung nangyari, nagkaroon kami talaga ng matinding deliberation regarding dun bago mangyari ‘yung game na ito.“Nag-decide na rin ‘yung management to part ways na lang po muna,” De los Santos said postgame.

“We’re so thankful rin kay Eva [Chantava] doon sa effort and ‘yung dedication na binigay niya sa amin.”

Reports have said that Slovakian winger Katrin Trebichavská will fill the Super Spikers’ import spot, and is slated to play as soon as possible.

However, according to SPIN.ph, the PVL has not given a formal confirmation on the import switch. According to the league, teams may change imports only for abandonment or breach of contract or due to medical reasons.

Meanwhile, de los Santos said the victory against the former champions on Tuesday was a wake-up call for Cignal, which is seeking its first title.

“Ang pinaka-takeaway dito is nagising din lahat eh. Kinailangan ko rin gawin bilang coach na kausapin ‘yung team, i-motivate at i-encourage sila sa kung ano ‘yung goal at ‘yung purpose namin,” he said.

“Pina-realize din sa’kin talaga na maraming mga bagay na ang dami naming kailangang ipagpasalamat pero mas nagfo-focus kami du’n sa mga iilang bagay na mas nalulungkot tayo,” de los Santos added.

Cignal will look to continue their momentum against the Nxled Chameleons on Saturday at Montalban.
