Aqua, AP.Bren veteran reflects on missed playoff run, eyes stronger comeback

For Arvie “Aqua” Antonio, returning to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines after a year away was supposed to be a redemption story. Instead, it became a humbling reminder that even the most seasoned players can’t rush chemistry or rewrite history overnight.

The 23-year-old AP.Bren mid laner, once a mainstay in deep playoff runs, found himself on the outside looking in after the team failed to advance to the postseason of MPL Season 16.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for someone who had spent his hiatus grinding, hungry to prove he could still perform at the highest level.

“Malungkot kasi hindi nakapag-playoffs since dream ko din na makapag-worlds. Nag-grind na, kasi gusto ko bumawi kaso yun, di talaga kinaya,” Aqua said in an exclusive interview — a candid admission from a veteran who has seen both glory and heartbreak.

Aqua didn’t shy away from pinpointing the issue: team synergy. “Siguro yung chemistry maraming kulang lalo na nag-build ulit ng new roster.

“Siguro lahat kailangan yung all-in mindset,” he explained, reflecting on a season where flashes of brilliance often gave way to inconsistency.

Known for his calm yet deadly precision in the midlane, Aqua was expected to anchor AP.Bren’s rebuilt lineup — a mix of young talent and untested combinations. But as the team tried to rediscover its rhythm, the gap between potential and performance proved too wide to close in time.

Still, Aqua views the season not as a failure but as part of a longer journey. “Sobrang daming natutunan, lalo na sa bago kong team. Siguro para sarili ko, more improvement pa,” he shared.

For fans, Aqua’s presence alone was a symbol of resilience — a player who took a step back to regroup, only to return with renewed focus and a hunger to grow. His determination remains unshaken, even with the sting of an early exit.

“Mindset ko, enjoy lang and more improvement pa kasi di pa naman natatapos ang laban, marami pang mga season,” he said, his voice steady with conviction.

As the lights dim on AP.Bren’s Season 16 campaign, Aqua’s story feels far from over. The veteran may have missed his shot at the playoffs, but his eyes remain fixed on a bigger dream — one that involves donning the Philippine flag on the world stage once more.
