Kenneth Llover still focused on world-title shot after title eliminator collapses

Despite his title eliminator bout falling through, Filipino boxing prospect Kenneth Llover is still eager to rise through the Bantamweight world rankings.

The 22-year-old was supposed to fight Landile Ngxeke of South Africa in a title eliminator until a switch happened, and Ngxeke is now set to face another undefeated boxer, Mexican Jose Salas Reyes, for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) crown.

Unfazed, Llover immediately set up a bout with Argentina’s Luciano Francisco Baldor at Bishkek Arena in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday, Oct. 26

“The Lover Boy’ had not stopped training despite the opponent change and said that he is still focused on a win, whoever boxer he faces.

“Siguro, hindi pa talaga ukol. Pero kahit na hindi siya title eliminator, kahit sino naman ang kalaban natin, kailangang paghandaan,” Llover said.

Alongside his team that consists of head trainer Dindo Ocampo, Alex Ariza, and Gerry Penalosa, Llover left the country to train in Kyrgyzstan on Saturday. 

Llover is coming off an eighth-round knockout of former world champion Luis Concepcion in August.

The Filipino currently boasts a win-loss record of 15 wins and zero losses, including 10 stoppages.

Meanwhile, Baldor is in the midst of a three-fight winning streak, with his last fight against Michell Banquez ending in a majority decision win.

The 31-year-old holds a record of 21 wins and four losses, with only one knockout to his resume.

John Riel Casimiro will also make his comeback in a boxing ring after his suspension, facing Kyonosuke Kameda on the first day of the two-day boxing event in a Featherweight bout.
