The Sacramento Kings have secured the future of one of their cornerstone talents, inking forward Keegan Murray to a five-year, $140 million rookie contract extension that will keep him in Sacramento through the 2030–31 NBA season.
ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news on social platform X (formerly Twitter), reporting that the deal was finalized by Murray’s representatives, Mark Bartelstein and Kyle McAlarney of Priority Sports. The agreement marks a major commitment by the Kings to their 2022 No. 4 overall pick, who has quickly established himself as one of the league’s most promising two-way players.
Since entering the NBA, Murray has made an immediate impact. He earned All-Rookie Team honors in his debut season and played a pivotal role in helping the Kings snap their long-standing playoff drought. Over his first three years, the 25-year-old has posted career averages of 13.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists across 233 regular-season appearances—missing just 13 games in total.

Murray is also building a reputation as a reliable long-range threat and elite perimeter defender. He is one of only seven players in NBA history to hit 150+ three-pointers in each of his first three seasons. Defensively, he has become a key stopper for the Kings, guarding 2025 NBA All-Stars in 1,005 half-court matchups last season—the fifth-most in the league. He’s also one of just three players over the past three seasons to tally at least 500 made threes, 150 blocks, and 150 steals, joining Anthony Edwards and Derrick White in that elite category.
However, Murray’s momentum will briefly stall to start the 2025–26 campaign. He is expected to miss the first 10 games after undergoing surgery for a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left thumb, sustained during preseason play. While the injury is a setback, Sacramento remains confident in Murray’s long-term value and upside.
Murray becomes the sixth player this year to sign a rookie-scale extension, and the Kings’ front office has made it clear: he’s central to their future. With his new deal locked in, Sacramento is banking on Murray continuing to grow into a premier two-way force in the Western Conference.
