National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has addressed ongoing speculation about his future with the Milwaukee Bucks, reaffirming his commitment to the franchise ahead of the 2025–26 NBA season.

The two-time MVP and 2021 NBA champion, widely known as the “Greek Freak,” dismissed rumors surrounding his long-term status with Milwaukee but acknowledged that circumstances could change in the future.

“I’ve said this many times: I want to be in a situation where I can win,” Antetokounmpo said in a press conference. “I believe in this team, I believe in my teammates, and I’m here to lead. We’ll take it day by day. But I’m here now, and all the extra stuff doesn’t matter.”

As it stands, the 30-year-old is under contract with the Bucks through the 2026–27 season, after which he will be eligible for free agency.

Speaking on ANT1’s The 2Night Show in Greece, Giannis also revealed his desire to return home and potentially finish his playing career there.

“I’m 30 years old. I can play in the NBA until I’m 36 or 38,” he said. “I would like to end my career with a Greek team—why not? I don’t want to live in the United States. As soon as I leave the NBA, I want to return to Greece.”

“I could end my career here—whether the team is called Filathlitikos, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, or Aris. I’m talking about all the teams now,” he added.

Antetokounmpo began his professional basketball career in Greece with Filathlitikos, playing two seasons before declaring for the 2013 NBA Draft, where he was selected 15th overall by the Bucks.

Since then, he has become the most iconic player in franchise history, leading Milwaukee to its first NBA championship in 50 years in 2021 and earning NBA Finals MVP honors. His decorated resume includes:

  • 2× NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP)
  • 1× NBA Finals MVP
  • 1× NBA All-Star Game MVP
  • 2024 NBA Cup champion and MVP
  • 9× NBA All-Star selections

Several other European stars, including Tony Kukoc, Serge Ibaka, and Evan Fournier, have also chosen to end their careers in Europe—a path Giannis may ultimately follow once his time in the NBA concludes.
