The Philippines are atop the Group A standings after toppling Timor Leste, 3-1, in the 2027 AFC Asia Cup Qualifiers at the New Clark City Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
The Filipinos boast 10 points and a +8 goal difference (GD), over Tajikistan who also tallied 10 points but on an inferior +6 GD at the top of Group A.
After an evenly-matched start, the Filipino booters faced a one-goal deficit before halftime following Timor Leste’s Joao Rangel’s solo run and eventual goal in the 45+1 minute.
The hosts immediately tied things up after halftime, however, as Jefferson Tabinas capitalized on a set piece barely a minute past the break, 1-1.
Bjorn Kristensen continued his stellar form against the Timorese after a strike ahead of goal in the 69th minute to put the Filipinos ahead, 2-1. The Fil-Norwegian has now scored five goals against Timor Leste in the tournament.
Jarvey Gayoso capped off the home victory after finding the ball and calmly putting it past the goal in stoppage time, 3-1.
