Premier Volleyball League (PVL) powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers suffered a stunning 23-25, 25-23, 30-28, 23-25, 15-12 defeat to the Akari Chargers in a hard-fought five-set thriller on Saturday, October 11, at the City of Dasmariñas Arena.

The match marked the much-anticipated return of one of Creamline’s most vital players, Tots Carlos, who made her first competitive appearance in six months following a complicated injury. Widely regarded as one of the country’s best opposite hitters, Carlos showcased flashes of the brilliance that have made her a dominant force in the PVL despite the loss.

Opening up after the game, the 27-year-old shared the challenges she faced during her recovery.

“Well, it was a bit complicated kasi yung injury ko. So, we had to figure out talaga kung ano yung nagwo-work sa ‘kin. Sabi ko nga sa interview kanina, it took me a lot of patience and discipline to get back,” Carlos said.

Despite the team’s defeat, Carlos made a strong impact, tallying 12 points and reminding fans why she is considered one of the league’s most feared attackers. This was her first competitive match since Game 3 of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Carlos also spoke candidly about the mental hurdles of recovering from injury.

“Mindset also kasi, you know, when you have injuries, it’s frustrating, so you really have to be patient. I learned a lot from everything that happened with my injury. So, that’s one thing to look at the other side naman. So, I’m happy naman na rin nakabalik ako,” she added.

Carlos’ return is a significant boost for Creamline, who have seen their dominance in the league challenged recently. Since joining the franchise in 2021, Carlos has been instrumental in their success, earning three PVL Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards along the way.

The Cool Smashers will look to bounce back when they face the Petro Gazz Angels on Tuesday, October 14, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
