ONIC Philippines once again proved that resilience beats momentum, storming back from the brink to complete a 2–1 reverse sweep of TNC Pro Team and lock in an upper bracket berth on the final day of the MPL Philippines Season 16 regular season, Sunday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati.

It wasn’t the smoothest road to the playoffs, but ONIC’s ability to recalibrate under pressure shone through — a reflection of the steady hand guiding them from behind the curtain.

“When you start looking at things subjectively, makikita mo naman na the team tried to do everything they can to sustain the game at ma-reverse. Game 1 looked like TNC’s coming-out party. With Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog’s Grock leading the charge, TNC dictated the tempo with relentless map pressure and smart wall placements. By the 20-minute mark, Frederic “Bennyqt” Gonzales’s Chou delivered the dagger — a crucial pickoff on King “K1NGKONG” Perez’s Yi Sun-shin that triggered a four-man takedown and sealed TNC’s opening win.

That wake-up call jolted ONIC into form. In Game 2, they took full command from the opening seconds — sweeping every Turtle objective and building a 7K gold lead by the 10-minute mark. Every skirmish was calculated, every rotation deliberate, and TNC simply couldn’t match the tempo.

During a tense 14th-minute siege on TNC’s base, K1NGKONG’s Lancelot dashed into the fray with pinpoint precision, cracking open the defense. Seconds later, Grant “Kelra” Pillas’s Claude unleashed a perfectly timed Blazing Duet, mowing down two defenders and turning the tide for good. The final push was methodical, leaving TNC no room for a miracle recovery.

The win not only gave ONIC momentum but also reaffirmed their reputation as a team that thrives under adversity — a vital trait as they head into the MPL PH Season 16 playoffs, which kick off on October 23 at the Cuneta Astrodome.
