Barangay Ginebra San Miguel guard Maverick Ahanmisi has revealed he handed in a trade request to team governor Alfrancis Chua.
In his YouTube Vlog, Ahanmisi revealed that he texted Chua for a trade request, which was eventually accepted.
After exchanging pleasantries, Ahanmisi texted Chua, “With a lot of thought, I would like to request for a trade.”Chua, who is also San Miguel Corp.’s (SMC) director, then asked, “It’s up to you.”
“Yes please, Boss. That’s what I want,” Ahanmisi replied.
Later in the video, the former Converge Fiberxers star called his agent, Danny Espiritu, to confirm the request, to which his agent replied, “I talked to Boss Al and he said yes, you secured a trade from him…Okay na.”
On Sunday, Ginebra dropped its Philippine Cup opener to the Magnolia Hotshots, where Ahanmisi logged no minutes.

Ahanmisi shared why he requested a trade, saying he wanted to explore other opportunities at this late stage of his career.
“I took a pretty big step last night and actually requested for a trade for the first time. I don’t know how people will take it, man, but to be honest, I like my teammates and I’m cool with everyone on that team,” he said.
“As a player, you want the opportunity to showcase your talent, so it’s kind of a fine line between being patient and waiting your turn,” Ahanmisi added. “But I just turned 34. I’m now at the back half of my career. There’s not much time to waste for me.”
The Filipino-Nigerian’s performance has dropped since being traded to Ginebra in 2023. He averaged 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 65 games played last season.
