Despite swirling speculation about his future, Giannis Antetokounmpo remains committed—for now.
The two-time MVP and 2021 NBA champion addressed the growing rumors surrounding his long-term status with the Milwaukee Bucks, reiterating his dedication to the franchise ahead of the 2025–26 NBA season, but acknowledging that things could change down the line.
“I’ve said this many times: I want to be in a situation where I can win,” Antetokounmpo said in a press conference. “I believe in this team, I believe in my teammates, and I’m here to lead. We’ll take it day by day. But I’m here now, and all the extra stuff doesn’t matter.”

Still, the 30-year-old superstar left the door open for future change.
“I’ve communicated with my teammates and the people I love and respect that once I step on the court or into the facility wearing this jersey, the rest doesn’t matter,” he added. “But if in six or seven months I change my mind, that’s human too.”
Antetokounmpo’s remarks come amid increasing chatter about his potential departure. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, belief is growing around the league that Giannis could soon part ways with Milwaukee. Another report from Shams Charania noted that Bucks management engaged in offseason talks with the New York Knicks regarding a potential blockbuster deal.
Despite the noise, Giannis insisted his focus remains on the Bucks.
“I’m locked in—to this team, to these guys, this coaching staff, and to myself,” he said. “Temptation starts when the season ends and doesn’t stop until it begins. People will approach me and my agent with possibilities, but at the end of the day, I’ll make the decision—and right now, I’m committed.”
Antetokounmpo missed the start of Milwaukee’s training camp due to illness and sat out the team’s preseason opener, though he has since rejoined the squad.
Selected 15th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Greek Freak has become the most iconic figure in Milwaukee Bucks history. He led the franchise to its first NBA title in 50 years in 2021, earning NBA Finals MVP honors. His résumé includes:
- 2× NBA MVP
- 1× NBA Finals MVP
- 1× All-Star Game MVP (2021)
- 9× NBA All-Star
- 2024 NBA Cup MVP, after leading the Bucks to the tournament’s inaugural title
As the Bucks prepare for what could be a pivotal season, their performance may determine more than just playoff positioning—it could shape the future of the franchise.
With Antetokounmpo’s free agency looming in the near horizon, the 2025–26 NBA season could mark a turning point not only for Milwaukee, but for the league as a whole.
