Giannis Antetokounmpo is widely regarded as one of the greatest players and power forwards in NBA history, and arguably the most iconic figure in Milwaukee Bucks franchise history.

Selected 15th overall by Milwaukee in the 2013 NBA Draft, Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to their first NBA championship since 1971 in 2021, earning NBA Finals MVP honors in the process. Since then, his legacy has only grown, with a résumé that includes two regular-season MVPs, a 2021 All-Star Game MVP, nine NBA All-Star selections, and the 2024 NBA Cup MVP, which he earned after leading the Bucks to the inaugural tournament title.

Despite his monumental contributions, speculation surrounding his future in Milwaukee continues to intensify. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, there is a growing belief that Giannis may soon part ways with the franchise.

“There has been an expectation for quite some time that Giannis’ days in Milwaukee, one way or another, are numbered—whether that was going to happen this year, during this season, or next summer,” Windhorst reported.

The Bucks’ recent playoff disappointments—three consecutive first-round exits—have only fueled rumors of a potential departure. Reports have also surfaced that Giannis’ family quietly relocated to Greece earlier this year, raising further questions about his long-term commitment to the franchise.

However, Giannis returned to Milwaukee this summer with a renewed focus. Sources close to the team suggest he still believes the Bucks can contend, especially with Myles Turner, Kyle Kuzma, and Bobby Portis forming a strong supporting cast.

The upcoming 2025–26 NBA season could be a turning point. Team performance will likely play a critical role in determining whether Giannis will remain with the Bucks beyond his current contract.

As one of the most dominant forces in the league, Antetokounmpo’s decision will undoubtedly shape the future of both the Bucks and the NBA landscape.
