Veteran point guard Mark Barroca continues to etch his name into PBA history, extending his remarkable consecutive games played streak to 619 during Magnolia Hotshots’ 80–73 victory over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the opening game of the 2025 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday, October 5, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 39-year-old Barroca now holds the longest active streak in the PBA, firmly sitting at second all-time—trailing only his current head coach and league legend LA Tenorio, who owns the all-time record of 744 consecutive games. Tenorio’s streak ended during the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup due to a groin injury.
Barroca surpassed Purefoods icon Alvin Patrimonio in December 2024 to move into the No. 2 spot, further solidifying his legacy as one of the league’s most durable and consistent players.

Despite his historic run, Barroca remains focused on contributing to the team under the new system led by Tenorio, rather than chasing records.
“Masaya ako kasi nanalo kami sa first game namin, lalo na may bagong system at bagong coach in LA,” Barroca said in a post-game interview. “Hangga’t kaya ko maglaro, hindi ako mag-stop. Hindi ko naman hinahabol ‘yung record. Pero kung kaya pa ng katawan ko, bakit hindi?”
Barroca also reflected on the unique experience of now playing under a former rival.
“Minsan lang ‘yung ganyan eh—kalaban mo dati, ngayon head coach mo na. Magandang experience ito. Mas mabilis ang adjustments kasi kilala na namin si LA. Kina-coach niya ako, pero ginagabayan din niya ako. At bilang beterano, ako naman ‘yung nagga-guide sa mga bata. Parang ako na rin ‘yung extension niya sa court.”
A model of loyalty and consistency, Barroca has spent his entire PBA career with Magnolia, joining the franchise in 2011. Over the years, he has helped lead the Hotshots to six PBA championships, been named Finals MVP twice, earned nine All-Star selections, a 2014 PBA Order of Merit, and two PBA All-Defensive Team honors.
As he continues his pursuit of excellence and longevity, Barroca remains a vital leader for Magnolia—both on and off the court.
