The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) is under fire after refusing to endorse the documents required for imports to play in the PVL’s Reinforced Conference opener on Tuesday.
The Akari Chargers, Choco Mucho Flying Titans, Capital1 Solar Spikers, and ZUS Thunderbelles opened the season without their respective imports, robbing fans of the conference’s main point: foreign athletes.
In a statement, the PVL condemned the PNVF’s actions and urged to expedite the documentation process to avoid any further disruptions in the import-included conference.
“Preparations have been made in good faith based on the schedule given to us. But then, at the last minute, the PNVF changed the terms,” PVL organizer Sports Vision wrote in a statement.
“We respectfully urge the PNVF to expedite the signing process to prevent further disruption to the tournament,” the statement continued.
Sources reportedly said the stall in endorsement stems from the PVL’s refusal to adjust its playing calendar for preparations in the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand this December. The PNVF reportedly wanted the PVL to end the Reinforced Conference by November 16.

PNVF’s refusal to endorse the ITFs also put the foreign athletes at risk for sanctions and international eligibility.
Officials condemned the federation for its failure to sustain the growth of Philippine volleyball by withholding the endorsement and other politically-charged decisions.
“Is the PVL composed only of players in the national team? What happens to the rest of Philippine volleyball – to its growth, to its fans, to the professional clubs – if all PNVF programs are implemented unilaterally and disruptively?” the official said.
“What real contribution has the PNVF made to the growth of volleyball in the country? Aside from asserting authority and taking credit for the achievements of others, what lasting legacy are they building?” said another official.
The PNVF eventually endorsed the ITFs on Wednesday morning, but the effects of the delay have raised questions about the federation’s integrity and motives for the future of Philippine volleyball.
