National Basketball Association (NBA) player Marcus Morris Sr. has found himself in trouble and at the center of a major controversy after allegedly stealing over $250,000 from two prominent casinos in Las Vegas.
According to TMZ Sports, Morris is accused of receiving $115,000 from the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino through bad checks that were never paid back. A month later, he allegedly pulled the same stunt at the Wynn Las Vegas resort, where he reportedly obtained $150,000 using checks he knew he wouldn’t be able to cash.
Morris’ agent, Yony Noy, took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to dismiss the allegations, calling them “absolute insanity” and insisting that there was “zero fraud.”
“Just so everyone understands — this is zero fraud or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell. This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently, if you owe over $1,200, they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity,” Noy wrote.
Morris’ twin brother, Markieff, also responded to the reports, stating:
“The wording is crazy. Damn, for that amount of money they will embarrass you in the airport with your family. They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud. They could have come to the crib for all that. When y’all hear the real story on this man — all I can say is, lesson learned. Bro will tell you all tomorrow. This weird [stuff] gave me a headache. Can’t stop nothing,” he added.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Marcus Morris Sr. was denied bail during a hearing in Florida’s Broward County after being arrested at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on felony fraud charges. The judge denied Morris’ motion to set bond, stating that she did not have jurisdiction to make such a ruling for an out-of-state case.
The 35-year-old has earned more than $100 million during his NBA career after being selected by the Houston Rockets as the 14th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Morris has played for several teams, including the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
He re-signed with the Knicks on September 15, 2024, but was waived by the franchise on September 28.
